Schooners Landing is located in the charming village of Owls Head on over five acres with 300 feet of private ocean frontage. The main house has four bedrooms, six baths, decks, balconies, curved windows and water and lighthouse views from every room
If you are looking for a great house for a family vacation, a house that lets you, your children and your friends each have their own private area with great views of the water and all the comfort and amenities they would want, but also have areas where you can all gather together and enjoy each other's company, Schooners Landing is just the place. If you have several couples, everyone can be on their own floor. If you have three generations on this vacation, grandparents can have the privacy of their own area away from everything and the grandchildren can have time together in the lower level with its game room, media room, windows looking out over the water, Jackson, the five-foot stuffed bear, pool table, games, puzzles, books, etc., as well as a full bath. If you have toddlers, we provide two playpens, two port-a-cribs, car seats, baby gates, bed rails, strollers, high chair, baby monitor, etc. and a great outdoor play area. We love children of all ages and if you have little ones you will find something for all of them to enjoy.
The house, completed about 12 years ago, is classic shingle-style architecture with three stories containing approximately 5,500 square feet of living space with large oversized rooms. Windows and decks take in the spectacular sunrises, passing sailboats, lobster boats pulling up their traps just off the front deck and lighthouses. Rockland harbor to the north is home to the country's largest fleet of tall masted sailing ships and many pass by the house each day. The house sits at the end of a 750 foot long driveway. A small stream runs year round through the property by evergreens and apple trees. The house is private yet not isolated. You enter through an antique leaded glass and oak door and as you stand in the large entryway, to your left through double glass doors is the formal dining room with seating for eight with a side door to a pantry area and the kitchen. The library/den is on your right. Straight ahead is the kitchen with a large eating area, granite tile counter tops, sitting area, television, gas log stove with antique oak mantle, french door refrigerator, dishwasher, five burner gas cooktop, electric convection oven, instant hot water dispenser, KitchenAid mixer, over 50 cookbooks, microwave, small wine refrigerator, lobster pots, etc. and everything else you need to cook a gourmet meal. A curved window looking out over the lawn to the water and a six foot round table from Windsor Chairmakers in Lincolnville, Maine complete the kitchen. The main floor has all oak hardwood flooring except for the master bedroom and kitchen. Also straight ahead on the main floor is the living room with an antique marble fireplace, writing desk, two large couches, brass telescope and sliding doors out to the curved 40 foot wide deck with great views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse, Seal Rock and Penobscot Bay. The location in Owls Head is just minutes from museums, shopping, the Owls Head (Knox County) airport, wonderful restaurants and the towns of Rockland, Rockport and Camden.
The master bedroom is also on the main floor. It has a king size bed, sitting area with upholstered rockers, windows on three sides, all with wonderful views of the water, two walk-in closets and two bathrooms. One bath has a jetted bathtub and the other has a steam shower. Also on the main floor is the laundry area, the library/den with oak bookcases, desk and also a couch to sit back on, look out over the water and enjoy a good book. There are over 750 books at the house in the library and in the bookcases in the second floor sitting area, the living room, the lower level bedroom and the family room. We have over 500 hardback novels, over 100 paperback novels and over 150 children's books.
The second floor is its own private family area with two oversized bedrooms, each with windows on two walls to let in the cool evening breezes. Each bedroom has its own bath with marble floors and oversized marble showers. Both bedrooms have both a king bed and a twin bed to accommodate to adults, couples, couples with a child, etc. (All of the beds in the house have Simmons Beautyrest pillow top mattresses.) Both bedrooms have lighthouse and water views. Also on the second floor is a large sitting room (16 x 13) with a vaulted ceiling, leather couch and loveseat looking out to the water, stereo, television, VCR, DVD player and bookcase. This room is a great place to relax, read a book, watch a movie or just take in the views. There are two decks on the second floor level, one with ocean and lighthouse views and one facing southwest with a seating area, water views and perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon sun or watching sunsets. The sitting room and both bedrooms have ceiling fans and plenty of closet space.
The lower level of the house is another family area made up of three parts. The first is the game room with a pool table, Fooseball table, two arcade games, stereo, antique bar, small refrigerator, upholstered rocker and chair, futon, round table for playing cards or doing puzzles, bookcase, electric fireplace and lots of windows with water views and double glass doors which open to a stone patio with a swing and chairs. The second area is our lodge room (a replica of a log cabin living room), a new acoustically designed home theatre with two levels of seating, a 70 inch high definition smart television with surround sound, Blu-ray player and stereo. This is a great room with soundproofing, no windows, etc. and is a perfect place to enjoy the latest movies We also have over 100 movies for you to enjoy as well as movies via Netflix streaming. The final finished area is a fourth bedroom with a king size four-poster bed, closet, built-in bookcase with television, DVD, VCR and stereo, and windows on three sides, all with water views. A full bath with an oversize whirlpool bathtub and marble rain shower serves the lower level bedroom. Relax after a day of hiking, biking or shopping in the extra deep whirlpool tub for two. Fourteen air jets with soothe those sore muscles. It's a great way to end the day.
There is plenty of outdoor seating with comfortable chairs, benches, etc. along with a Weber grill and gas grill on the deck off of the kitchen. The rocky shoreline is less than ninety feet from the house and the landscaped grounds are great for children to play ball, fly kites, explore, etc., etc. The driveway and very large parking area (75 x 65) eliminate the problems of moving cars to get in and out that occur at so many homes. If your children would miss their television shows or videos, we have seven televisions, digital and high definition cable, as well as VCRs, DVD players, etc., over 100 movies most rated PG or PG13 and suitable for the entire family. If anyone is an avid baseball fan and can't bear the thought of missing their favorite team on television, we have the MLB Extra Innings cable package that provides most major league baseball games each day. If you like to listen to your favorite music, most bedrooms have a docking station for iPods or iPhones. If you can't totally get away from your work (but we suggest you leave your work behind), we also have wireless high speed internet service, a desk in the library with a fax machine/scanner/printer and office supplies. We provide everything you need; linens, dishes and glasses for 20, lots of kitchen equipment, beach towels, golf clubs, tennis racquets, horseshoe set, bicycles and helmets, fishing poles, maps of the local area and brochures on local points of interest, etc. All you need to do to have a great time is walk through the door. As part of your rental we will help you with special requests and send you information about local area attractions, restaurants and events. We have a caretaker who is always available if you need anything. With the sleeping arrangements that we have, our home comfortably sleeps ten. If your group requires just a little more space, we also have a caretaker's apartment above the three car garage which has its own kitchen area, bath, queen size bed, hide-a-bed, two TVs and water views. This apartment is available for an additional $650.00 per week.
